Your Site Needs More Videos

We’re nearly ready to launch our freshly redone website. Aside from making it look even better, we had two things top of mind: making the entire site mobile-friendly and making sure there are plenty of videos, throughout.

You might be thinking, “Of course a film and video production company needs videos. But why does my retail/ wholesale/ manufacturing/ educational/ non-profit website need videos?”

The answer: videos bring big returns on a number of levels – from marketing to hard sales. We’ve compiled some recent statistics on why using video strategically is one of the most important ways to make your website a stronger marketing and sales tool.

  1. You can’t avoid a tidal wave

If you’ve been avoiding video, the time is now:

    • a 2013 poll found that 93% of marketers had used video for online marketing, sales or communications purposes at some point during 2013, up from 81% in 2012. Another 3% said they had not used video in 2013 but were considering doing so.
      EMARKETER, 2013
    • Video is the top function merchants plan to add to their e-commerce sites over the next 12 months, with nearly 40% planning to include videos in their online merchandising efforts.
  2. Your email newsletters and campaigns need video to perform better
Approximately half of marketers who use video in email campaigns see increased click-through rates, increased time spent reading the email, and increased sharing and forwarding.
    EMARKETER, 2013
  3. Online product videos help consumers decide to buy
According to Internet Retailer, 52% of consumers say that watching product videos makes them more confident in their online purchase decisions. When a video is information-intensive, 66% of consumers will watch the video two or more times.

Internet Retailer reports that shoppers who viewed video on home storage retailer StacksandStacks.com product pages were 144% more likely to add to cart than other shoppers.

According to Retail Touchpoints, the Step2 Company found that shoppers who viewed video were 174% more likely to purchase than viewers who did not.

  4. DIY video works, but not as well as professionally produced video
Professionally produced video optimized for eCommerce outperforms user-generated video (UGC video) by 30%, delivering a 24.7% lift as compared with an 18.7% lift for the UGC video.

  5. Video is the future in Internet traffic
Internet video traffic will be 69% of all global consumer Internet traffic in 2017.
    CISCO, 2013

Audiences are used to seeing slick video everywhere. They expect well recorded sound and images, with good storytelling and scripting behind them – not without its costs. But the numbers don’t lie – video can make big differences in your marketing and sales numbers.
